On June 12, 1978 the Cape Breton Branch of the
S.P.C.A. opened it's doors for business. It's paid staff consisted
of a Manager and a Animal Inspector, all others were volunteers.
Eventually, the Shelter was able to hire two
kennel workers whose wages were subsidized by a government program.
Today, the Cape Breton SPCA is governed by a
Board of Directors
Directions to our Shelter
- From Ashby Corner on Prince Street, take
Victoria Road through Whitney Pier
- Follow Victoria Road through Whitney Pier
until you reach East Broadway on the right
- Follow East Broadway 1 Mile to the top of
the hill
- Directly across from the East Broadway Cemetery,
you will find the S.P.C.A. Kennel (on the left)
